When I work with couples for their wedding photos it’s often the women I chat with most, but for proposals it’s the guys. I have to say that the men who go out of their way to plan a special surprise proposal for their ladies are some of the kindest, most thoughtful people I have ever met. This is exactly how I felt working with Adam for this surprise proposal at the Distillery District.
A surprise proposal in the Distillery District
When I talked to Adam about proposing to Katie, he said he wanted to do something special. He meant to propose sooner, but the timing was never right. Life had thrown them some challenges over the years, but they’d resolutely stood by each other and come through the other side. If that’s not the definition of love I don’t know what is.
Adam and Katie love their pets so it was important to Adam that their dog, Ripley, be a part of his proposal. When Adam got down on one knee to pop the question, Ripley was the first to witness Katie say yes. Seeing this proposal come together was so joyous. It gave me all the warm fuzzies seeing these good people celebrate a win in life.
After Adam proposed, I gave Katie a few minutes to soak in the surprise. She was staring at her ring when I walked up to introduce myself. “You did so good, babe!” she said as she gave Adam a kiss. She apologized about her outfit and their lack of modelling experience. I told her none of that mattered, as I don’t treat my couples like models, I treat them like people with a great story to tell. My job is to capture the connection and small details that make a couple unique. For the remainder of the time that afternoon, we walked around the Distillery District taking photos in its special nooks and crannies before they were whisked off in a limo.
