Corrin and Albert’s first email to me described themselves as travel junkies, dim sum lovers and athletes. They were looking for a photographer who felt like a friend to photograph their wedding at Hotel X. As much as I love travel and dim sum the last line caught me the most. I knew then we’d get along great.
After our initial meeting we met up again this time for lunch. I love meeting up with my couples for a meal. It’s so much more relaxed than our first meeting. People are more themselves, especially around food. We met up for one of their favourite things, dim sum. Over dumplings we got to know each other and talk about inspiration for their wedding. They wanted their wedding to be intimate, modern and elegant. I immediately started thinking about ideas for their wedding photos.
Flash forward to the wedding day, theirs was different from any other Toronto wedding I’ve captured. I love when couples straying from tradition and make their wedding uniquely them. During their first look they quietly exchanged vows. It was a private moment just for the two of them. Their wedding also happened to fall on the opening of the CNE. They decided to have all their portraits at Hotel X to avoid traffic outside. At first, I was concerned there wouldn’t be enough areas for portraits at the hotel, but I was pleasantly surprised. Hotel X was a dream to photograph. The spacious terrace, clean lines and neutral tones had the contemporary feel they were looking for. To get the evening started, Corrin and Albert had their first dance during sunset overlooking lake Ontario.
